Video Conferencing: General Tips

Video conferencing is a great technology.  It cuts down travel time and allows for meetings with true communication even though the participants are separated by hundreds or possibly thousands of miles.  A few tips can help keep things running smoothly.  First, it is important to arrive early.  This applies to any meeting but it is especially important for video conferencing.  By arriving early the technician can make sure the camera is focused on you and explain the important features of the unit.  It also gives you time to feel comfortable in the video conference room and appear prepared once the conference is under way.  As for appearance, it is important to avoid wearing shirts and blouses with stripes and patterns.  This is because these can cause flicker and distortion in the video.  The last and most important tip is to give a small pause before you speak.  This is because there can be a very slight delay in the transmission.  Waiting just one second before responding to a question will help you avoid speaking over the person at the other side of the conference.   Following these steps will help ensure a smooth and successful video conference.
