Here at IAV our Whippany, NJ video conference rooms are used for many different purposes. One of the most common uses is for job interviews. In my previous post I described general tips for video conferencing such as arriving at the facility early so you could settle in. In this post I will go into more specific guidelines for the interviewer and the interviewee.
The interviewer should have the resume on hand. This way they will know who they are speaking to and what questions to ask. Both attendees should be aware of the time constraint. The room will be booked for a certain period of time: usually one hour. This should be known to the person being interviewed so they can make the best possible impression by using the time effectively. It also should be known to the interviewer so they can ask all the questions that they need to.
All time zone differences must be known to everyone as well. If a video conference involves two states on different sides of the country there will be a significant time difference. Some states may even be split into two time zones. It is also worth noting that Arizona doesn’t follow daylight savings time. If all this sounds confusing, that’s because it is. For this reason it’s always a good idea to confirm with the other location what time zone they are and their current time. This is also why we take care of all the details when a video conference is booked with us.
Time is important to everyone. That is why it is very important to use the time set for a job interview as effectively as possible. Just because it is being done over video doesn’t mean there is reason to not be as prepared or attentive. Video conferencing systems create an experience that transmits video and audio smoothly and sharply. In other words, you need to be at your best because everything will be crystal clear.
